Dentistry in ASEAN Countries

Vietnam stretches as long as 2000 kilometers from its north to south. Shaped like an “S” on the map, it looks like a slim figure of a young Vietnamese lady dressed in traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai, walking elegantly towards us and embracing the world. Demonstrating a fine combination of oriental mystery and French romance, Vietnam is famous for the harsh war museum, the peaceful Buddhist pagoda, the bustling tourist spots and the endless coastline, all attracting tourists from around the globe.

The total population of Vietnam is about 86 million. It shows a strong momentum of growth in recent 6 years and the growth rate is among the top 10 in the world. With the development of Vietnamese stomatology and the improving standards of people’s livelihood, there is a growing demand among people for high quality oral medical equipment, materials and services. According to statistics from Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, there is one dentist in 25,000-30,000 people in Vietnam and in rural areas that figure is as high as 700,000. The development goal of the country is to ensure that in 2030, 5000-10000 people can be served by a dentist. That means in the next 10-20 years, the volume of stomatological hospitals and clinics should be 6 times of the current level so as to meet the demands of the increasingly well-off Vietnamese people for treatments of oral diseases and cosmetic dentistry.
