Dentistry in ASEAN Countries

The Kingdom of Cambodia locates in the south of Indo-China Peninsula. It borders Thailand to its west and northwest, Laos to the north, Vietnam to the east and southeast and gulf of Thailand to the southwest. Cambodia used to be called Khmer and it is a country of ancient civilization with a long history.  The splendid Angkor Wat, Phnom Penh, the prosperous capital which stands for centuries since the time of The Kingdom of Khmer and the unpolluted beaches that stretch for hundreds of kilometers have a long standing reputation around the world.
Cambodia has a population of 13.4582 million. Totally there are referral 90 hospitals, including 8 national hospitals. Up to 1004 health centers in year 2011 are well functioning, in which one health center can serve to 10,000 people. Presently the public health system fails to meet the dental health needs of most of the population; however there are a few good examples of school preventive programs such as tooth brushing and weekly fluoride mouth rinsing. In the future, there are plans to strengthen the primary oral health care system and focus more on oral health prevention and promotion, also integration with general health program.
